About Kim Schaefer, LPC, SEP
Kim (she/her) is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner™ who works from the lens of Interpersonal Neurobiology and Contemplative philosophy. She is a complex trauma specialist and relational therapist who integrates techniques from Somatic Experiencing (including SE Touch work), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), Emotional Transformation Therapy, Nonviolent Communication, and Integrative Restoration (mindfulness). Her relational approach is further enriched by her advanced training in Terrence Real’s Relational Life Therapy (RLT). Kim meets clients where they are, drawing on her knowledge of the brain, body, and nervous system to support the healing journey. Her clinical focus includes relationship stress, couples counseling, life transitions, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, and trauma recovery.
Beyond the therapy room, Kim enjoys spending time in awe of local sunrises, sunsets, the night sky, and all that Mother Nature has to offer. She cherishes spending time in the various communities she has cultivated over the last twenty plus years in Austin. Creating ceramic art keeps Kim grounded and playful, and her regular yoga and meditation practices keep her well regulated. At home, Kim loves making her partner laugh and finds joy in training her rescue dog turned therapy dog Stevie Nicks.
Kim enjoys working with men, women, and nonbinary adults from all walks of life and with various life experiences. She is experienced working with LGBTQIA+ clients and is sensitive to how the intersection of multiple identities impact her clients’ experiences in life and in therapy. Kim enters the therapeutic relationship with deep respect and curiosity and is a gentle guide on the path towards self compassion, acceptance, and embodied healing.
