About Kim Schaefer, LPC, SEP

Kim (she/her) is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. She is highly skilled in Interpersonal Neurobiology and integrates techniques from extensive training in Somatic Experiencing, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotional Transformation Therapy, Nonviolent Communication, and Integrative Restoration (mindfulness). Her relational approach is further enriched by her studies in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Gottman’s Sound Relationship House, and Terry Real’s Relational Life Therapy. Kim meets clients where they are, drawing on her knowledge of the brain, body, and nervous system to support their healing journey. Her clinical focus includes relationship stress, couples counseling, life transitions, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, and trauma recovery.

Aware of her privilege as a white woman in a predominantly white-centered society, Kim actively works against the harmful effects of white supremacy and binary thinking. She strives to create an inclusive, nuanced, and complex space for all of her clients.

In addition to her counseling expertise, Kim has over 1,000 hours of advanced yoga training. She completed her initial 200-hour yoga teacher training at YogaYoga in Austin, Texas, in 2006 and has since earned certifications as an Anusara-Inspired™ teacher and Level 2 iRest™ Yoga Nidra meditation teacher. As an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher at the 500-hour level (E-RYT 500) and a Continuing Education Provider (YACEP) with Yoga Alliance, Kim was the lead instructor for Austin Yoga Tree’s 200-hour Teacher Training in 2017.

Kim is a graduate of the Nevada School of Massage Therapy’s 815.5-hour Professional Massage Therapy Program and practiced bodywork from 2001 to 2019. She holds advanced training in Craniosacral Therapy from the Upledger Institute, and these skills continue to inform her Somatic Experiencing Touch work. Before her career in counseling, massage, and yoga, Kim graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Arts in Music.
